PATRICK DAVIES
clarinet, flute, sax tutor
London and online
Alongside my performance career, I am an experienced and dedicated woodwind teacher. I run a private teaching practice, and tutor at schools and music centres across London. I also offer online tuition through a number of video platforms.

I recently graduated with distinction from the Master's programme at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and have been a music tutor since 2010. I have a clear, up-to-date, enhanced DBS certificate and am trained in child safeguarding to level 2.

I teach flute, clarinet, saxophone and music theory to all ages and abilities. My hourly fee is £46.00, and I also offer 45 minute lessons for £41.00 and 30 minute for £34.00. I am happy to teach at students' homes or online by video call.

About my teaching

My lessons are designed around the goals of each individual pupil. These goals can include: playing concerts in groups; taking graded exams; improving technique; playing and improving for fun; learning to read music; learning to improvise. I teach through various styles of music, including classical, jazz, traditional (folk) and contemporary (pop). I have a lot of experience teaching adults: my youngest current student is six, my oldest in his seventies. Some students take a regular weekly or fortnightly slot, and others book occasional, flexible lessons.
My experience

I have been a music tutor since 2010, and have worked in music full-time since 2016. I teach at the Wandsworth Music Academy and the Pembroke Academy of Music. I also teach at secondary and primary schools, and at students’ homes across London. My teaching work includes tutoring beginners up to and beyond grade 8, adults and children, one-to-one and whole classrooms, instrumental lessons and music theory, and coaching youth orchestras. I am employed to teach the clarinet, saxophone, flute, recorder and theory in schools, music centres and for my own private practice. I have taught plenty of adult pupils – beginner, advanced and returning students. I have successfully prepared students for ABRSM exams from grade 1 to grade 8, for public school scholarships, and for entry to the junior departments of the Royal College of Music and Royal Academy of Music.
My education

I studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where I was awarded a Master of Music degree in Advanced Performance Studies and a Concert Recital Diploma. I also hold a Diploma in Performance from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, and a Bachelor of Music degree with honours from the University of Manchester. I am formally trained in performance, improvisation, teaching, composition, harmony & counterpoint, orchestration, musical history, theory, analysis & aesthetics.
